Founders

Flow, Inc. was founded in Taiwan in June 2007 by Steve Chang, Chairman of Trend Micro, Inc., and Tom Wang.
Company’s Chinese Name
The Chinese name of the company means “Like Water.” “Like Water” comes from a quote by a 600 B.C. Chinese philosopher called Laozi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laozi). He says, “Charity is like water. Water nourishes everything but occupies nothing.” It is Flow’s aspiration.

Company’s English Name

The company’s English name is “Flow.” We like this word for two reasons:

1.Water flows.

2.Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, the former head of the department of psychology at the University of Chicago, wrote a book entitled Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience. Csikszentmihalyi outlines his theory that people are most happy when they are in “a state of flow”— a state of concentration or complete absorption with the activity at hand and the situation. Steve and Tom believe that effective philanthropy brings people to the state of flow.
